Blackened Salmon with Avocado Salsa

Made with Cajun seasoning and topped with avocado salsa, this salmon recipe is an easy weeknight meal that’s fresh and healthy.


For the Cajun Seasoning:

  • 2 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp. sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder

For the Blackened Salmon:

  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 6-oz. filets salmon

For the Avocado Salsa:

  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 jalapeno, finely diced
  • 1 tbsp. cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tbsp. freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/4 tsp. sea salt


  • To make the cajun seasoning, combine the paprika, chili powder, cumin, sea salt, dried oregano, dried thyme, and garlic powder in a small mixing bowl.
  • Season the salmon liberally with the cajun seasoning.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the seasoned salmon to the hot pan, and cook until it becomes deeply golden brown and slightly blackened before flipping and repeating for the other side, approximately 2-3 minutes per side.
  • To make the avocado salsa, combine the avocados, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, and sea salt in a mixing bowl until combined. Set aside.
  • Top the salmon with the avocado salsa and serve.
